The issue of current civil war unfolding in South Sudan is
quite disturbing and disheartening to some peoples who know better and have
seen so much suffering through out their lifetimes. There is a need for us to
truly examine our true moral compass as a Southern Sudanese if we intended to
co-exist as a one nation, one people. This feel good slogan which tends to be
tossed around in South Sudan media outlet by Juba regime cohorts without coming
to term with the magnitude of the situation which has engulfed our country. For
South Sudan to survive in the communities arena of nations we the citizens of
this multiethnic group need to dig deeper in to our true moral compass because
cosmetic solution to our myriad problem will just be a short term fix. We must
stride to built a just society that is base and grounded in respect of our
mutual differences rather then dwelling in traumatic past rivalry, which were nurtures on suspicious, bigotry, and tribal’s hatred. We must come to term with
the 21st century world we living in and it’s not flat nor no man is
an island.
If we can truly examine our achievement since we have
seceded from the old Sudan most if not all of us Southern Sudanese are now regretting
the secession by all mean our friends and foes alike included; because the very
citizens who actually supported overwhelmingly the referendums vote for
separation from the old Sudan most are in constant state of disbelieve given the magnitude
of the current situation in which we found ourselves in after all the
jubilation in July 09, 2011. If the ordinary citizen now
know that the secession of South Sudan would spell such a disaster as we are
currently experiencing most would certainly vote for united Sudan even if it
mean being label a second class citizen in that united Sudan like it was once
put at the time when the secession campaign reach pitch climax in 2010.
Before the initiation of the vote for referendum few
individuals in the like Dr. Hassen Al Turabi, Dr. Wani Tombe were vocal and has
off course forewarn us what was about to unfold if South Sudan is allow to
seceded. however most people weren’t in the mood to listen to what they have to
say because the fate of South Sudan was already seal it has to be decide
through the ballot box. The intellectuals elites with in this newly found state
were excite and in a rush against time taking all the short cutting there were
in most of the steps along the way without being mindful of the huge
responsibility the were about to inherited like the saying goes with more power
come more responsibility it’s a delicate matter.
After flag hoisting the ball was now rolling in supposable
would be intelligentsia elites of the newly found nation which claim at the
onset that the where ready to charter a new course for South Sudan in nation-building. As time proven nation building was daunting challenge as
issues after issues were mounting on the leadership which were not prepared or
incompetent enough to deal with such an issue and December 15, 2015 Nuer ethnic
genocide that ensue in Juba is testimonies to all of how ill prepared South
Sudan and its leadership were from the onset. As the international communities
try to grasp with how to best deal the situation. As Intergovernmental Agency
on development (IGAD) lead peace initiative in Addis Ababa Ethiopia was
immediately initiated with the backing from United Nation Security Council. The
warring party has been negotiating now for almost 2 years with no end insight. The
never-ending peace talk in Addis Ababa has been dragging on for while no concert peaceful
settlement that has been reach in order to bring about an end to the current conflict. it is quite clear both the IGAD
and international body have done what they could; but more is require of them the
need to act forcefully hold both warring parties into account in order to
bring just peace to this tormented nation.
